Pro: Nintendo Wii

To all those who think Nintendo winning is bad for 3rd parties...

Is it Nintendo's fault that 3rd party developers had chosen to follow a sinking ship (PS3) over a year ago? Maybe if those developers had paid attention to what happened at the E3 show, with the 5 plus hour long lines for the Wii versus 25 minute waits for the PS3, things would have been different. If they instead thought, "It's not worth us having to sell 500,000 copies of a game for PS3 just to break even, when everybody seems to be interested in the ... [read more]

Con: Nintendo Wii

Evil marketing delays?

Nintendo has always delayed a game to make it better versus making a release date, but the slew of Wii titles being delayed has me thinking this may just be pure marketing. Put your self in their corporate shoes. Your system is selling out everywhere, why would you waste quality Nintendo titles that usually sell systems during a time when the system is selling itself?

Wii Play was delayed from Jan. to Feb. Mario Party 8 has been ... [read more]

Con: Is the Wii Remote gimmicky?

As gimmicky as the d-pad

The wiimote is about as gimmicky as the d-pad when it was introduced, or the analogue stick. Just like the wiimote, game controls are just different input devices. If you think the wiimote will become boring to use, you should have counted the millions of times that you pushed a button for a video game. Even the 'gimmicky' rumble technology popularized by Nintendo has become a staple in the generations that followed (except for Sony's current controller situation, taking it out of the PS3 to ... Con: Should The Legend of Zelda have voice-overs?

No

One of the main draws of the series is that you feel like Link. You are the hero, you are fighting against impossible odds, and giving Link a voice-over would damage that illusion.

Link never says a coherent word, even in text form. I believe Link should never have a voice-over. Link should only have a voice, when you are the one talking. When video games reach a point to where voice recognition is worth while, you should be Link's voice.

Other characters should also ... [read more]

Pro: You should try this on Wii

Tony Hawk

You might have been afraid that this game would be a disaster, but you can put those fears aside. Tony Hawk for the Wii is actually quite fun, especially 4-player.

You will probably like this game as long as you know one thing: This is not a standard Tony Hawk game, this is a racing game. It is probably the best 4-player racing game currently on the console.

It is a fun, trick-filled downhill race where you can knock down your opponents and do some cool skateboarding ... [read more]

Pro: Wii Sports 2 in development?

Obviously

It's a no-brainer that Nintendo is working on the sequel to the game that made their system main-stream. Online is also an obvious addition, especially if Nintendo wants to make their online network as popular as the DS WiFi.

This will probably come out during holiday 2007 and be the big push for the online service. The game should be relatively easy to make, with the brunt of the work going into the control scheme (as it should). I actually see Nintendo making a new Wii Sports ... [read more]

Con: Will Nintendo drop Wii price in Spring?

No

Nintendo may have been planning a price drop for Spring 2007 when they weren't sure how fast the console would catch on. Now that they are consistently selling out, they would have no reason.

This rumor was probably from an old meeting by Nintendo execs who were concerned that the system may not be well received right away. However, now that the sales numbers and the lines before store openings have surely given Nintendo reason to change their minds about the drop. Basic economics ... [read more]

Con: Should the Wiimote and Nunchuk be packaged together?

No

Since many of the games won't use the Nunchuk, Nintendo wants people to be able to buy only the Wiimote. This also puts both at a sub $20 and $40 respectively, which in the eye of a consumer, is much better than both for $60.

It's looking like 50% of the games will not use the Nunchuk, which would mean wasted consumer spending, and leave them with less money to spend on games, which Nintendo makes more profit on.

Nintendo stated that they may package both of them ... [read more]

Pro: Nintendo Wii

Main stream media hyping the system like no other

When Gamecube came out, it got little more than a small blurb at the bottom of the major news networks' screen. Now with the Wii, they are going all out with demonstrations that feed the hype machine almost guaranteeing Nintendo will do much better than last generation.

Major news networks are covering the Wii more heavily than they have any game system in the past. The Wii has been seen on the Today show, 24-hour news networks, and even PC Magazine has been giving the Wii glowing ... [read more]

Pro: Nintendo Wii

Nintendo will win just by pure numbers

Nintendo will have between 4-9 million systems by years end (and with holiday buying hysteria, they will all sell) while Sony will only have at most 2 million (which also will sell out). I needed a calculator to figure this out...but if I punched the in right numbers...Nintendo wins!

The Wii is poised to be the fastest selling console in history. Not just because it has a huge hype machine, but they can make the systems fast and easy. They can get the maximum amount of product out ... [read more]

Pro: Wii Launch Lineup

Best Day 1 games of any system ever!

Nintendo has confirmed 32 games that will be available in the launch window (by Dec. 31) and it looks like it will have the best launch of any system ever.

Legend of Zelda is obviously at the top of the list for most gamers, but there are plenty of other great games coming out right away. Nintendo's Excite Truck is another game that will sure to be a classic and is on many people's list. Ubisoft has a awesome line-up of games, including their soon-to-be mega hit, Red Steel. ... Con: Wii Virtual Console

Disappointed with SNES lineup, no RPGs

I am pretty disappointed with the Super Nintendo Virtual Console lineup. Two mediocre games and no classic RPGs? That's what the SNES was about. Not even Super Mario World made the cut.

F-Zero and SimCity weren't really crowning achievements on the SNES. I was hoping for at least one good classic RPG to play this year on Virtual Console. A Final Fantasy perhaps, or Chrono Trigger, or Super Mario RPG. We know SquareEnix is on board with the Wii, so I doubt they'd have any ... [read more]

Pro: Red Steel

Dual blades!

Screenshots have been shown, and confirmed that you can now wield two blades. One controlled by the wiimote and one by the nunchuk. This game is going to be awesome.

To obtain the two blades, you need to be careful about who you kill. If you kill too many people, you won't be able to yield both blades. You need to make your enemies give up and then you will be rewarded later in the game.

This game is going to be great. Not only is it the only major FPS at launch for ... [read more]
