Pro: What will replace E3?

Counters: maybe TGS

Nothing

The more I hear about the new E3, the more I understand what happened to the old one. It became too crowded and unwieldy and publishers were sick of paying millions of dollars for little in return. The new toned down E3 will be less about the show floor, and more about the conferences and announcements

The big three still plan on having their pre-E3 shows where they announce new games, consoles, etc. This is usually the big part for me anyway. I don't get to go to E3, so the show floor has little value to me. I think the publishers would rather have their own events for their own games, where they dictate the terms and it costs them less money.

I don't think anything will replace E3, at least for a while. The other shows during the year will get gradually bigger, but if they get too big, publishers will do the same thing to that conference. The big thing for most gamers was the big announcements, and it looks like E3 will still be the king of that.
