Backward compatibility still WAY better than 360
200 games may sound like a lot, but it's less than 2.5% of Sony's classic game library. And out of the 200, most of the problems are sound glitches, which makes this a minor nuisance and nothing like the 360 backwards compatibility debacle.
While Sony was proclaiming 100% backward compatibility with their earlier systems, this does not put a huge dent in their reputation. It is being blown way out of proportion by the mainstream media since they feel the need to follow internet trends of bashing Sony's every move.
I'm not really sure why people care this much about backwards compatibility in their new systems. If they have games for the system, most likely they have the old system; why not just play it on the old machine. I guess it's our desire to get more value out of the money we spent last generation and the computer mentality of backwards compatibility.
The Xbox 360 backwards compatibility issues are barely discussed anymore, and there were far worse problems with that. Even PS2 couldn't play all the PS1 games, but nobody seemed to care months after launch. In the end, you buy a new system to play the new games on it, not your old ones. If you wanted to play PS2 games, buy a PS2, it's definitely a lot cheaper.
